Best summer dishes to try in Benalmadena
With Spanish cuisine internationally celebrated it is just one of the many reasons to enjoy a holiday in Benalmadena and here at MAC Hotels we have come up with a selection of the finest local dishes that you must try during your stay on the Costa del Sol.
Porra Antequerana
This cold soup is a perfect summer starter to your holiday with a similarity to the internationally known Gazpacho. With a tomato base, which is thickened with bread, it is traditionally topped with boiled egg and ham. This dish is sure to cool you down during your sightseeing.
Espeto
The most typical dish from the Malaga region, these barbecued sardines are everywhere along the coast and a ‘must try’ as you soak up the sun on one of the best beaches in the area. Not to be missed when staying at the Hotel MAC Puerto Marina.
Ensalada Malagueña
A local twist on your traditional potato salad, this refreshing salad is made with salt cod, onion, green olives and oranges. Usually served as a starter, this dish is found all over the region. Why not try it at one of the restaurants close to your 4-star hotel.
Ajoblanco
Another cold soup features on our list and predates the famous Gazpacho. Brought here by the Moors, the name translates to “white garlic” and is made from predominantly toasted almonds, olive oil and garlic. Another perfect summer option in Andalusia.
Pipirrana
Our final cold salad that is a staple of the local cuisine here in the region of Malaga. Consisting of chopped red and green peppers, tomatoes, onions, olives, tuna and mussels (or some form of seafood), this is a true Mediterranean meal that never fails to satisfy those looking for a fresh dish served in the Spanish sun.
Tejeringos
There is no better way to start your day than with a coffee and Tejeringo. These southern variations on the classic churros get their name from the syringe like machine that gives them their shape. These can be enjoyed as an indulgent breakfast or a delicious snack as you explore the shops around your hotel in Benalmadena in the summer sunshine.
